HOUSTON — The Texas Education Agency is telling schools to cancel or change any events or lessons tied to Cesar Chavez following disturbing abuse allegations against the late labor leader.
In a new letter sent to school leaders, the TEA said districts should “eliminate, modify or otherwise alter” any classroom activities, lessons or materials that reference Chavez. That includes plans for Cesar Chavez Day, an optional state holiday recognized on March 31 under Texas law.
