The Fort Bend Star newspaper to close after 48 years covering Fort Bend County, editor says

The Fort Bend Star newspaper will shut down after covering Fort Bend County for roughly 48 years, its editor said Wednesday.

In an article titled “Farewell from the Fort Bend Star,” Editor Ken Fountain said the newspaper would close in a “not entirely unexpected” move. The publication has covered Sugar Land, Missouri City, Stafford, Richmond, Rosenberg and other communities in Fort Bend County since 1978, according to its website.

The Star is the second community newspaper in the Houston area to announce its closure in as many weeks. The Leader β€” which covered the Heights, Garden Oaks, Oak Forest and North Houston β€” stopped printing last month and will no longer update its web content after Wednesday…
