State fines waste facility as Kissimmee neighbors complain of odor

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Some Osceola County residents are asking for change regarding an odor in their neighborhood, and those residents said they believe the smell is coming from Kite Technology Group on Smith Street, which disposes of septic waste, cooking oil and more.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection fined that company $2,500 due to the odor, according to a consent order filed this month. That includes the costs and expenses of the DEP’s investigation. It must be paid within 30 days of the consent order filing.

The Florida DEP conducted a site visit to Kite Technology on Smith Street in April, which resulted in the DEP noting that “objectionable odors were confirmed beyond the property boundaries,” which violates Florida Admin Code on pollutant emission according to DEP’s consent order…
