Orlando plastic surgery center settles ADA violation allegations

ORLANDO, Florida — A Winter Park plastic surgery center has agreed to settle allegations of violating the Americans with Disabilities Act, according to U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe.

Kamran Azad MD P.A., doing business as Azad Plastic Surgery (APS), faced an investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office following complaints from individuals alleging discrimination based on their medical conditions. One complainant, who has Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and another with Crohn’s disease, claimed APS refused to provide them with plastic surgery services. The investigation concluded that APS violated the ADA by relying on incorrect assumptions about these conditions rather than current medical knowledge.

Under the settlement terms, APS will pay $40,000 in compensatory damages, with $20,000 allocated to each complainant. The center is also required to implement a non-discrimination policy, provide ADA compliance training to staff, and report any future disability discrimination complaints for the next two years…
