While we always make sure to keep you informed of Disney World news, that often means new snacks, new movies, or new rides in the parks. However, sometimes it means discussing taxes.
Which is exactly what we will be doing today. Disney has recently been filing many property tax lawsuits; to be exact, they have filed 15 lawsuits against Orange County, and it looks like they just won another regarding Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.
Dining reservations? Lightning Lanes? Park hopping? We got you. Learn when to book what, where to spend a little extra, and how to skip the worst lines.
The lawsuits that were filed last year alleged that the Orange County Property Appraiser, Amy Mercado, failed to comply with Florida law and adopted appraisal practices that resulted in assessments exceeding the market value of the properties.
This essentially means that Disney would be paying higher property taxes than they were supposed to. Therefore, they have been getting the properties reappraised in order to ensure that all of the market value assessments are correct, and the reappraisal of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort proved in favor of Disney’s lawsuit.
These lawsuits happen very often, and for this specific case, Disney was looking at the property appraisal for the years 2015 through 2018 to be revised.
While there are still several cases ongoing for Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney won a tax reduction that adds up to nearly $34 million in reduced property value. This will likely lead to a tax refund, since Disney was required to pay 2025 property taxes prior to the lawsuits being filed.
