At approximately 4 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, an SUV drove through the outdoor dining area of The Moderne, an Orlando bar. Stephanie Oropeza, still in her banana costume from a Halloween party, called 911 outside the bar.
After footage of the incident circulated online, social media users dubbed her the “banana hero.”
An SUV on the wrong side of the road
Oropeza and her fiancé, Dragan Nesic, witnessed an SUV veer off the road. According to Oropeza, the driver began on the opposite side of the street and gradually steered toward the bar.
“At first we were just in shock because at first it just started off [with] him driving on the opposite side of the road,” Oropeza said. “And then slowly he started just veering into The Moderne…He kind of just smushed everything all the way to the front.”…
