Florida Sheriff’s Deputy Accused of Beating Child with Belt After She Kept Using iPad

The Orange County’s Sheriff said he had ‘a zero-tolerance policy toward child abuse’ following his deputy’s arrest

A sheriff’s deputy in Florida was arrested Wednesday, after reportedly using his belt to beat a child, putting her in the hospital, after she refused to stop using her iPad.

Tristan Chattic, 39, who works for Orange County Sheriff’s Office, was arrested by deputies from Volusia County who had gone to the hospital following reports of a “domestic violence issue.”

When they arrived at the hospital, deputies found a woman and her two children. One of the kids had been using an electronic tablet to work on homework, which had allegedly upset Chattic.

He had unplugged the device, but the child plugged it back in and Chattic had become “extremely angry,” the report alleges.

“(Chattic) stood on her left side, yelling at her about disobeying him, then he struck her on the left side of her face in a type of backhand slap,” the affidavit reads.

The deputy then reportedly grabbed the girl’s hair and choked her, pushed her to the floor and then pinned her to the ground by stepping on her back.
