Father Robert Hoeffner’s body was discovered after a police shootout involving a 24-year-old in Palm Bay
A retired Catholic priest was among three killed by a gunman in Florida on Sunday, with two cops also injured as they tackled the suspect before shooting him dead.
The bodies of Father Robert Hoeffner and his sister Sally were discovered in Palm Bay, the Diocese of Orlando said in a statement Monday afternoon .
Police were called to the 400 block of Forgal Ave NE in the city, which is around 74 miles south-east of Orlando, on Sunday afternoon, following reports of a domestic disturbance.
As they arrived, armed 24-year-old Brandon Kapas was leaving the home. Officers tried to speak with him, but he wouldn’t comply, Palm Bay Police Department said.
“Shortly thereafter, an exchange of gunfire occurred, injuring two of our officers,” the department said . “Additional officers responded to the area and pursued the suspect who fatally wounded another person before being engaged by law enforcement and subsequently killed.”
