Man arrested after attempted Polk County bank robbery

LAKE WALES, Fla. (WFLA) –– A 42-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly attempted to rob a Polk County bank Tuesday morning.

The Lake Wales Police Department said shortly after 11 a.m., Dennis T. Davis, 42, of Sebring, entered the Bank of America, located at 1100 E Hwy 60, and indicated to a bank teller that he had a firearm in his jacket pocket.

After Davis demanded and received money from the teller, he ran away with an unknown amount of cash, police said.

Following the robbery, a Lake Wales Police K-9 tracked Davis to a CVS, which is located across the street from the Bank of America. The K-9 team found Davis hiding in “thick vegetation” on Palmetto Avenue.

Witnesses positively identified Davis as the suspect, and he was taken into custody.

According to the police department, Davis did not have a gun in his possession when he was arrested. No one was injured during the robbery.
