Klay Thompson, Suitor Showing ‘Mutual Interest’ As Free Agency Looms

The Orlando Magic are reportedly ready to make a splash during NBA free agency.

On Monday, insider Shams Charania revealed the Magic, which were eliminated from the playoffs on Sunday, could target Warriors guard Klay Thompson when free agency begins on July 6.

During an appearance on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” Charania said, “The Magic can open an excess of sixty million dollars in cap space this off-season.”

He added, “One name to keep an eye on is Klay Thompson. I’m told there is mutual interest between the Magic and Klay Thompson.”

A four-time NBA champion with the Warriors, Thompson averaged 17.9 points per game this season, his lowest since his second year in the league.

He struggled in the playoffs, shooting 38.8 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from beyond the arc, both below his season averages.

But 36.8 percent should sound pretty good for an Orlando squad that had the fourth-worst three-point shooting percentage in the first round (30.9 percent).
