Major restaurant chain has closed lots of stores, including four in Florida, with only 38 left

In a move that echoes the broader challenges faced by chain restaurants across Florida, Hooters has recently shuttered several of its locations—including four notable ones right here in the Sunshine State. This decision brings Florida’s count down to just 38 Hooters restaurants, marking a significant reduction in the chain’s presence in its birth state.

Hooters first sprang up in 1983 in central Florida, born from a group of businessmen with a simple yet bold vision: to create a place where they could enjoy wings, beer, and sports without the risk of being kicked out. The concept featured waitresses in now-iconic orange shorts, quickly becoming a staple of the brand. From those early days, Hooters expanded both nationally and internationally, becoming synonymous with a casual, sports-focused dining experience.

However, the landscape in 2024 tells a different story. In late June, Hooters announced the closure of around 40 stores nationwide, citing the pressures of current market conditions. “Ensuring the well-being of our staff is our priority in these rare instances,” a part of the statement read, indicating the company’s focus during this challenging period.
