Florida K-9 stabbed while going after fleeing suspect

DAVENPORT, Fla. (WFLA) — A K-9 with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office was injured Thursday afternoon while going after a fleeing suspect armed with a knife.

Deputies said they received reports of a “battery in progress” around 6:30 p.m. in Davenport.

A helicopter crew surveyed the area while Davenport police, Haines City police, and K-9 Reno and his partner went to assist the deputies who were at the scene.

Once they spotted Kelsey Boyce in the woods, officials said he was given several chances to surrender but refused.

Boyce, 23, had reportedly gotten into a fight with another man and threatened him with a knife. Upon arrival, responding deputies spotted Boyce running off into a wooded area.
