Orlando man pleads guilty to computer fraud and identity theft

ORLANDO, Florida — Michael Scheuer, a 39-year-old from Orlando, has pleaded guilty to charges of computer fraud and aggravated identity theft, according to United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg. Scheuer faces up to 10 years in federal prison for the computer fraud charge and a minimum of 2 years for identity theft.

Scheuer’s plea agreement reveals that he conducted a series of computer intrusions targeting his former employer after his termination. These attacks included altering allergen information on restaurant menus to falsely indicate safety for customers with allergies and changing wine region details to reflect locations of recent mass shootings. Additionally, Scheuer launched denial-of-service attacks to lock certain company employees out of their enterprise accounts. He has agreed to forfeit the computer used in these offenses…
