The man accused of killing Florida teen Madeline Soto is opening up about his thoughts on the death penalty ahead of his trial. In newly released audio, Stephan Sterns, 38, revealed that he “wished he did the right thing.”
“Understand that anything I did was not done while being in my rational mind,” Sterns told his parents in a call obtained by NBC affiliate WESH2. “I had snapped at that point.
“I just … I wish I had done the right thing to begin with,” he added. “You know, I wish I had run downstairs and shaken her awake and called 911 and all that.”
