An Orlando man has received a 32-year federal prison sentence after being found guilty of drug trafficking that resulted in a woman’s fatal overdose, as well as illegal firearms possession. Joel David Fonseca Flores, 45, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida. Fonseca Flores, along with co-defendant Misty Lynn Parady, 35, sold counterfeit fentanyl-laced pills to the victim, identified only as N.K., who initially thought she was purchasing oxycodone.
Throughout the trial, evidence revealed that despite N.K.’s reports of testing positive for fentanyl after using the pills sold to her, Fonseca Flores and Parady continued to peddle the dangerous counterfeit drugs. The fatal consequences of their actions were brought into stark relief on April 4, 2022, when N.K. succumbed to a fentanyl overdose. According to the information from a traffic stop conducted on October 3, 2022, the authorities discovered fake “M30” fentanyl pills and cocaine, among other items, in the pair’s possession.
Following their arrests in April of 2024, law enforcement officers found multiple firearms, ammunition, additional drugs, and cash during a search warrant executed at the home of Fonseca Flores and Parady.
