Osceola County Postpones Pulse Tragedy Tribute Groundbreaking to October in Honor of Victims’ Families

Out of respect for the victims, survivors, and families affected by the 2016 Pulse Nightclub tragedy, Osceola County has postponed the June 12 groundbreaking ceremony for its Wings of the Rainbow tribute, which was originally set to coincide with a final private tour of the nightclub site. The county emphasized its desire not to force loved ones of the victims to choose between the two meaningful events.

“We do not wish to place them in the position of having to choose between that solemn occasion and what we expect to be a meaningful groundbreaking,” the county statement read.

The new groundbreaking date will be in October, coinciding with LGBTQ+ History Month. The Wings of the Rainbow installation is planned for Brownie Wise Park along the shore of Lake Tohopekaliga in Kissimmee, and it will serve as a community-led tribute to those impacted by the Pulse tragedy…
