New Winter Haven nature park, more than a decade in the marking, opens on Lake Conine

Winter Haven officials celebrated the grand opening of Lake Conine Nature Park on May 13, a project that’s been more than 15 years in the making.

The roughly 32-acre park, with main parking lot off Lucerne Park Road, was purchased by the city back in June 2010 for approximately $12,000. The objective was to restore wetlands to help treat stormwater runoff heading into Lake Conine and create a recreational space for residents.

The first phase of the project was to create a series of wetland cells to help filter water heading into Lake Conine. That was done in a partnership between the city, Polk County, state and Southwest Florida Water Management District…
