Couple cheated out of more than $7,000 by phony cabinet contractor

A Clermont man was arrested on a warrant after fronting as a licensed construction contractor to take over $7,000 from a couple who wanted cabinets.

On Aug. 16, 2024, two victims hired 55-year-old Michael James Bilodeau of J Gator Consulting to install Procraft cabinets at their residence, according to an affidavit of probable cause out of Lake County.

The affidavit noted that a check through Sunbiz.org showed J Gator Consulting was inactive with an administrative dissolution on Sept. 27, 2024. A record search revealed “there was no evidence…” Bilodeau “has ever had a current or active license as a Construction Contractor in Lake County or the State of Florida.”

The victims sent Bilodeau two separate $1,000 payments through Zelle. The first was on Aug. 16, 2024, and the second was on Aug. 19, 2024, the affidavit said…
