Lake County man turns himself in after his truck fatally strikes bicyclist

A Eustis man turned himself in for fatally hitting a bicyclist Monday after his truck was found abandoned and ablaze nearby.

On Monday morning, 42-year-old Jermaine Adolphus Williams drove a Dodge Ram pickup truck southbound on South Orange Blossom Trail in the outside lane, according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol. A 43-year-old male bicyclist from Orlando was traveling west in the marked crosswalk.

Williams failed to stop for the bicyclist ahead, causing the front of his truck to hit him. The bicyclist was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Post-collision, Williams fled the scene.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office ultimately found the truck abandoned and on fire behind a nearby business. They detained a suspect matching a description given by a witness, but Williams later contacted the FHP to turn himself in…
