Strategic Maneuver Prevents High-Speed Chase, Leads to Peaceful Arrest of Man Accused of Choking a Minor
POLK COUNTY, Fla. – An attempted escape by a wanted felony suspect was skillfully thwarted Wednesday afternoon by Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) deputies, who utilized a tactical maneuver to contain the man’s vehicle at a busy intersection. The arrest on US 27 near Bates Road brought a peaceful end to the search for an 18-year-old accused of a violent crime.
Deputies had been actively searching for A’darius Le-shad Phillips of Dundee, who had an active felony warrant for Battery by Strangulation. The charge stems from a July 26th incident where Phillips is alleged to have choked a juvenile.
According to a PCSO report, a deputy spotted Phillips traveling northbound in a white 2008 Chevy Malibu near Haines City. With heavy afternoon traffic, the deputy requested backup units to assist in the apprehension.
