Man allegedly steals $113 in food items using self-checkout at Walmart

An Orlando man was arrested on charge of theft after allegedly stealing $113 in food items using self-checkout at Walmart.

An officer responded to Walmart, located at 550 U.S. Hwy. 27, Clermont, regarding 21-year-old Roscoe Smith not scanning items and bagging them at the self-checkout lanes at 6:25 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, the deputy walked toward the grocery entrance where loss prevention staff stated Smith was walking toward on the phone. He could hear the staff try to stop Smith who had just passed all points of sale with the unpaid merchandise. He refused to comply and tried to run out into the parking lot away from them, the report said.

The deputy then stopped him at the intersection just in front of the store and detained him. He was put in the back of a patrol vehicle while staff recovered the stolen items. They advised that Smith scanned several things at self-checkout but put numerous unscanned items in the bagging area, the report said…
