Domestic Violence survivors gain business skills through Academia de Autosuficiencia program

ORLANDO, Fla. — The National Domestic Violence Hotline reports that one in three women and one in four men in the U.S. have experienced forms of domestic violence such as rape, physical violence or stalking during their lifetime.

In Central Florida, nonprofits such as Nuevo Sendero aim to prevent domestic violence and help survivors of all ages, including children who have witnessed domestic violence.

In August, 10 women graduated from Nuevo Sendero’s Academia de Autosuficiencia program. This program allows survivors of domestic violence to go through establishing a business plan, training and financial classes, and more to independently make their business ideas into an established business or career…
