Winter Haven man turns himself in after ‘brutal attack’ on woman

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (WFLA) — The Winter Haven Police Department said a man wanted for attempted murder and domestic violence turned himself in to authorities Friday evening.

Raymond Martin Mikeal III, 37, is accused of beating and choking a woman on Friday, Oct. 2, and later fleeing the scene.

Police said Mikeal was arguing with the victim when he first grabbed her phone and slammed it on the ground. He grew increasingly violent, striking her multiple times and throwing her to the floor when she tried to run away.

Mikeal then grabbed her by the throat, restricting her breathing with one hand while continuing to hit her with the other.

She was eventually able to escape Mikeal and run for help, but he had fled the residence by the time officers arrived.
