Texas woman attributes $106 in unscanned items to ‘distractions’ at Walmart

A Texas woman was arrested for theft after skip-scanning $106 in merchandise using a self-checkout register at Walmart.

A deputy responded to Walmart, located at 550 U.S. Hwy 27, Clermont, for a retail theft involving 33-year-old Brittany Smith in the self-checkout area around 12:40 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

An asset protection investigator advised that he saw Smith bagging items without scanning them. A check of the surveillance footage showed she seemed to grab two items, scanned one and put both in the bag. The unscanned items totaled $106.12, the report said.

Smith ultimately admitted to having unscanned items in her possession. She stated she did not intentionally steal and attributed the unscanned items to distractions and the amount of things she was buying, the report said…
