Shan Rose earns 52% of vote in Orlando Council District 5 race

ORLANDO, Fla. — Incumbent Shan Rose has earned 52% of the vote in the Orlando’s District 5 commissioner race Tuesday, according to the Orange County Supervisor of Elections Office.

The race consisted of Regina Hill, Shan Rose, and Lawanna Gelzer for the seat. Gelzer is the only candidate who has not previously held this seat.

Rose ran as an incumbent, as she has been serving as District 5’s commissioner in the place of Hill. Rose won the special election held last year, so this was her first time running for a full term. She is a part of the NAACP, the League of Women’s Voters, the American Red Cross, the National Congress of Black Women, and others, according to her campaign website. Rose is running “to inspire, educate and empower a sense of unity and pride,” according to the website. “She builds unity and pride among the youth and enhances their livability.”

Hill had represented District 5 from 2013 to September 2024, when she was removed after being indicted on seven felony charges. These charges include identity fraud, mortgage fraud, and elder exploitation, but Hill claims she is innocent. Her next hearing will be held on Jan. 16, 2026…
