Teenager and 31-year-old cohort use self-checkout in attempted theft at Walmart

A man and a teen were arrested after using self-checkout in the attempted theft of $120 in merchandise from Walmart.

Security cameras caught 18-year-old Stasia Flory Diaz and 31-year-old Rasheen Hardin, both of Davenport, using self-checkout to steal from Walmart, located at 550 U.S. Hwy. 27, Clermont, around 12:55 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Diaz had put two black shirts underneath her long-sleeved shirt while on the shopping floor. She then used a self-checkout register to scan three items and bag them along with a pair of pants she did not scan. She and Hardin tried to leave without paying for 12 items worth $120.14 but were stopped near the exit doors, the report said.

Hardin later admitted he did not pay for the items, yet this was his first time doing such a thing. The footage showed he skip-scanned multiple things before trying to leave the store, the report said…
