UCF alumna dedicates life to rescuing injured, orphaned wildlife

An older woman cuts an Orlando Sentinel newspaper into even squares and places them into the bottom of a small cage, as a restless squirrel gnaws on a pomegranate seed in a hammock overhead.

Carol Hardee, UCF alumna, is the co-founder and director of the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Central Florida, which takes in over 1,000 injured and orphaned native wildlife every year.

Hardee operates the center out of her home, spending her day taking care of each of them, through hand-feeding and medical care, until they are healed enough to be released…
