Cash Gone, Court Skipped: Davenport Man Re-Arrested In Publix Wallet Theft Case

DAVENPORT, Fla. – A Davenport man is back behind bars after authorities say he swiped a forgotten wallet at a grocery store and then ghosted his day in court.

Jon Carney, 40, was taken into custody Thursday morning, November 27, at his residence on Laura Court. Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrived around 9:10 a.m. to serve a warrant issued the previous day for Failure to Appear.

The legal trouble for Carney began two months ago, stemming from a September 15 investigation at a local Publix. According to detectives, a customer inadvertently left her wallet sitting on a counter.
