Florida man from Colombia sentenced in Connecticut for helping steal $4.4 million in jewelry

BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut — A Colombian man who last lived in Florida was sentenced in Connecticut on Thursday for contributing to an organized theft ring that moved state to state, stealing more than $4.4 million of jewelry.

Jorge Giovanni Escobar Gonzalez, 41, is a Colombian citizen with recent ties to Kissimmee, Fla. He was part of a group that stole jewelry from mall-based stores and kiosks throughout the United States.
