SeaWorld Orlando clarifies walker policy on website amid DOJ disability discrimination inquiry

  • The Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division said on Nov. 25 that it would open an investigation into SeaWorld Orlando, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, and their water parks regarding a policy change that banned specific types of wheeled walkers and rollator walkers.
  • Under the new policy, wheeled walkers and rollator walkers with seats are no longer allowed inside those theme parks. SeaWorld said “misuse and safety-related incidents” inside the park led to the policy change.
  • The DOJ sent a letter to the CEO of United Parks & Resorts Inc., the parent company of SeaWorld and Busch Gardens, and asked for someone to reach out to them within a week.
  • It’s unclear if the DOJ and United Parks & Resorts or SeaWorld Orlando have been in touch about the investigation….
