A retired police officer in Orlando, Fla., was shot and killed on New Year’s Day in an incident that police say stemmed from a “family dispute.”

Officers responded to a residence around 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, and found a victim on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, according to a press release shared by the Orlando Police Department. The victim was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
