Man dies from burns after trying to set Haines City High School on fire, sheriff says

HAINES CITY, Fla. (WFLA) — A man died Monday after suffering severe burns while trying to set Haines City High School on fire, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.

The sheriff said the 32-year-old man from Brooklyn, New York, climbed over a fence at the high school on Sunday night with a container of gasoline.

“He didn’t do much damage to the school, but he set himself on fire,” Judd said. “You won’t see the video, because we won’t release it, but it’s horrific.”

According to authorities, the man suffered severe burns on about 64% of his body. First responders found him lying in an alcove near one of the school buildings after a fire alarm went off shortly after 7 p.m…
