A Clermont man was arrested after selling an “abandoned” sailboat for $400 on Facebook Marketplace.
A deputy responded to Waterfront Park, located at 140 East Ave., Clermont, regarding a boat stolen by 25-year-old Jared Vincent Dirocco at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival, the owner advised that he left his 1969 fiberglass sailboat anchored about 100 ft offshore from the park in Lake Minneola sometime around Dec. 20, 2025. He acquired the boat in Nov. 2025 and got it registered in his name on or about Nov. 21, 2025. He subsequently listed it for sale on Facebook Marketplace but never got any inquiries, the report said.
That was until Sunday, when a buyer told him that he believed he was in possession of the boat. He had bought it from Dirocco within the last week or so from an ad on Facebook Marketplace for $400. Dirocco gave him a Bill of Sale but could not provide other paperwork showing proof of ownership. The buyer then used the bill to get a homemade title for the vessel that now lists it as a 2026 homemade vessel, the report said…
