Orlando man faces multiple charges including bank fraud and obstruction

JACKSONVILLE, Florida — Donald Heflin Mitchell, a 49-year-old from Orlando, has been indicted on six counts of bank fraud, two counts of false statements on loan applications, and one count of obstruction of justice. If convicted, Mitchell could face up to 30 years in federal prison for each count of bank fraud and making a false statement, and up to 10 years for the obstruction charge, according to U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe.

The indictment alleges that in October 2025, Mitchell applied for credit at two car dealerships, falsely claiming to be an investment banker and later a programmer, to purchase vehicles. Mitchell, who was released from a previous 15-year federal prison sentence for bank fraud in August 2025, is also accused of exploiting a person with diminished mental capacity by posing as the son of the victim’s deceased husband to access funds, including a $52,000 cashier’s check.
