‘Rest easy’: Winter Haven police mourn loss of retired K-9

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (WFLA) — The Winter Haven Police Department is mourning the loss of a retired K-9 who served the agency for seven years.

“We are heartbroken to share the passing of ‘Miko,’ a retired K-9 who served alongside Officer Alex Collazo,” the police department said Monday.

Miko and Officer Collazo became partners in 2015. The German Shepherd was certified in narcotics detection, criminal apprehension, tracking and article recovery.

The police department said Miko quickly became an “invaluable member” of the K-9 Unit, showing “drive, determination and loyalty.”…
