Nearly $100 million in gold confiscated in multi-state takedown of alleged scam network

DECATUR, Ga. — Law enforcement officials have seized nearly $100 million in gold from three jewelry businesses in Georgia, Texas and Florida as part of a sweeping investigation into a scheme that allegedly targeted seniors and laundered their life savings out of the country.

The multi-state takedown centers on Malani Jewelers locations in Decatur, Georgia, and Richardson, Texas, as well as Orlando Gold Refinery in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Investigators executed search warrants at the stores this week, removing dozens of boxes filled with jewelry and gold.
