Detroit Lakes students stranded in Orlando after Minneapolis storm, bussing home

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (Valley News Live) – 75 Detroit Lakes High School band and choir students are on a bus headed home from Orlando after a weekend winter storm in Minneapolis disrupted their return flights from a national music competition.

The group had traveled to Orlando to compete through WorldStrides Company. About 150 students made the trip, but only half were able to fly home as scheduled.

Two flights, two outcomes

The students were split across two flights with different departure times and layover cities. Band Director Tim Siewert said one group made it back without issue.
