City Ends Public Feeding of Swans at Lake Eola

Visitors to Lake Eola will no longer be able to feed the swans.

The City of Orlando has implemented a new no public feeding policy, removing coin-operated feeders throughout the park and installing new signage in English and Spanish asking visitors not to feed or approach wildlife. In some areas, only the posts where feeders once stood remain. The move is intended to reduce crowding among birds and limit the spread of disease. The swans will continue to be fed by floating feeders maintained by the City.

The change comes after a recent avian flu outbreak that killed dozens of swans at the lake after first being detected just before Christmas.

It has now been roughly two months since the last reported swan death in late January, suggesting the outbreak may have run its course…
