Sheriff’s conducting operations to stop violent vacation rental home crimes

As Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies continue to investigate a deadly early Saturday morning shooting at a vacation rental home near ChampionsGate, investigators said they are ramping up enforcement of an ongoing problem—crimes committed at large and loud parties at these rented homes— that surfaced about 10 years ago and crested again during COVID in 2020 to get around event shutdown mandates.

Deputies still have no suspects in deadly shootings that took the life of an 18-year-old Saturday and a 16-year-old at another rental property just west of Kissimmee on March 14. Another shooting took place at a vacation rental just to the west of that in September 2025.

Sheriff’s spokesperson Capt. Kim Montes said Sheriff Chris Blackmon is conducting operations on weekends to try to catch these parties and disperse the guests attending them—before anything unlawful or lethal occurs…
