Forensic experts track 5 new deadly drugs spreading through East Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knox County Forensic Center shared new drug-related death numbers for several drugs its experts are tracking. The synthetic opioid, N-Propionitrile Chlorphine, or cychlorphine for short, was originally linked to 16 deaths as of February.

Come April, that total rose to 41 after it was linked to previous deaths that happened in 2025, according to KCFC. Now, so far in June, the total has jumped up to 58.

The center’s director and chief administrative officer, Chris Thomas, said that as of now, there are no reportable deaths from May. However, he said they are still waiting for the remaining toxicology reports…
