KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Three East Tennesseans have been sentenced to federal prison after they pleaded guilty to being involved in a multi-million dollar prescription fraud scheme between 2018 and 2020.
According to the Department of Justice, Barbara A. Smith, 75, of Powell pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and was sentenced on Thursday to serve 37 months in prison followed by one year of supervised release. The DOJ said that Jared Grant Riddle (“Grant Riddle”), 47, of Clinton, and Brian M. Woods, 48, of Dandridge, also pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud. They were sentenced to 33 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
All three were ordered to pay restitution. Smith was ordered to pay $4,810,878, Riddle was ordered to pay $8,687,531.89, and Woods was ordered to pay $7,365,897.89…
