Tennessee swoops in and deals Virginia Tech and James Franklin a recruiting blow

James Franklin and Virginia Tech have been on a recruiting heater over the last six months, which vaulted them, at times, into the Top 10 according to 247Sports. It was a recruiting heater that Hokies fans have been waiting for and loving.

This weekend was another heavy recruiting weekend in Blacksburg in terms of the Class of 2027 for Franklin and Virginia Tech, with some announcements coming over the next couple of months. On Saturday, there were two commitments and the Hokies, and Franklin ended up on the short end of the stick on both.

Virginia Tech loses two commitments on Saturday

Four-star offensive lineman Q’Mari Hudson from Virginia made his commitment. Going into it, Virginia Tech was in a good spot for offensive line coach Matt Moore and Franklin to get a commitment, but Tennessee and Josh Heupel swooped in late and plucked him from the Hokies.

“Honestly, it happened after talking to my mom and God overnight after I was back home from Tennessee,” Hudson told Rivals. “I was set on Tech one day, but after looking at every last detail, Tech is a great school, but Tennessee checks all my boxes.”…
