Deadly crashes highlight need for safety improvements to Broadway corridor

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — After a deadly crash on North Broadway killed three people Monday morning, 6 News is taking a closer look at the corridor’s history of serious crashes and the changes now in the works. 6 News learned more about how one mother’s loss in a separate Broadway crash is helping fuel the push to make the corridor safer.

“When we see crashes like this, I think it’s pretty obvious that we have a roadway that’s not working as safely as it should,” explained Cody Gentry, the City of Knoxville Vision Zero Manager.

A deadly crash on North Broadway near Cecil Avenue left three people dead and sent one car into a creek. The Knoxville Police Department shares 73 pedestrian-involved crashes have happened on Broadway since 2021, eight of them fatal.
