Asbury Place Maryville becomes Asbury Ridge

Asbury Place Maryville, a Life Plan Community serving older adults since 1956, officially became Asbury Ridge, a HutsonWood Life Plan Community, on Wednesday.

The name change marks the fourth chapter in the community’s seven-decade history, following its origins as the Holston Methodist Home for the Retired (1956), Asbury Acres (1987), and Asbury Place Maryville (2003). The new name preserves Asbury, honoring Francis Asbury, the first Methodist bishop in America and a founding figure in the tradition of care for older adults, while adding Ridge to reflect the community’s location in the foothills of the Smokies.

“Asbury has always belonged to the people who live here,” said Chris Romick, Executive Director of Asbury Ridge. “We kept it because the continuity matters. We added Ridge because this land, in the foothills and in sight of the mountains, has always been part of what makes this place feel like home.”…
