ALCOA, Tenn. (WATE) — Alcoa City Schools has delayed the start of the 2026-2027 academic year due to technical issues with its student information system.
The opening of school has been delayed until Thursday, July 23. All schools will be closed on Tuesday, July 21 and Wednesday, July 22. Kindergarten students should still follow their assigned schedules beginning on July 23.

Monday’s announcement attributed the delay to statewide disruptions of the Skyward student information system, which is used by school systems to manage academics, attendance, grading and other administrative functions.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this sudden closure causes your family, and we appreciate your patience and flexibility as schools across the state work through this technical hurdle,” the announcement said. “We will share further updates as soon as they become available.”…
