This weekend will be one of the hottest of the summer.
- Today: (30%) Hot and humid with spotty storms, some of which produce locally heavy rainfall. High: 93° (Heat Index: 100°+).
- Tonight: (20%) Lingering evening storms followed by a quieter overnight.Low: 75°.
- Tomorrow: (30%) Steamy with a few isolated afternoon/evening storms. Many will stay dry. High: 95° (Heat Index: 105°+).
The heat and humidity will crank up through the weekend. Highs will reach the low 90s today. Heat index values will climb above 100°, which will increase the risk for heat related illnesses. Spotty showers and storms are anticipated, especially during the afternoon/evening. The higher elevations will be the favored locations for additional rain. There is an elevated risk for isolated flooding, especially if heavy rain falls over areas that have seen high totals over the last couple of days. The strongest storm this afternoon could produce some isolated gusty winds as well.
A few storms will linger this evening, but a quieter overnight is expected. It will be mild and muggy. Overnight lows will only fall to the mid 70s.
Like the last several days, complexes of storms are expected to form in the Mid-west today. There is a low chance that a line of storms approaches our Southeast Kentucky counties this evening. If some of these storms make it here, isolated flooding and damaging winds cannot be ruled out. However, the threat is low as high pressure to our south will start to have a greater influence on our weather and keep the general storm track north of our area…
