KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A plan to guide redevelopment along the Tennessee River waterfront in Knoxville received the green light from city leaders.
The Knoxville City Council approved the North Waterfront Redevelopment Plan on Tuesday. Prepared by Knoxville’s Community Development Corp, it covers a wide swatch of land along the Tennessee River between Henley Bridge and Kingston Pike.

KCDC CEO Ben Bentley told 6 News last month that the plan focuses on preparing the area for future growth with upgraded stormwater and utility infrastructure, increased public river access, new greenway and bicycle connections, and preservation of historic structures.
These upgrades will support three projects— the entertainment district adjacent to Neyland Stadium, the pedestrian bridge that will connect the University of Tennessee campus to the South Knoxville waterfront and the Maplehurst Innovation District near W. Hill Avenue.
“We’re trying to get out in front of it before these big development projects happen. Put the redevelopment area in place, so we can invest in stormwater improvements, utilities, greenways, open space and better access to the Tennessee River,” Bentley said…
