KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Former Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler has died, according to his former Communications Director Kimberly Glenn.

Glenn said Spangler died on Thursday following a years-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Spangler announced his diagnosis back in 2024.

“Sheriff Spangler was a servant. His decades of service left a mark on this agency and the people of Knox County,” Knox County Sheriff Brent Gibson said in a statement. “On behalf of myself and the entire Knox County Sheriff’s Office, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who served alongside him.”…
