KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A new entrance to the G10 parking garage on the University of Tennessee campus has opened ahead of the planned demolition as work on the entertainment district moves forward.
The new entrance and exit to the western portion of the garage that will remain standing are on Neyland Drive facing the Tennessee River. The university said drivers should exercise caution while becoming familiar with the new traffic pattern. Some demolition equipment has arrived, and community members should expect construction activity and equipment movement, as well as signs and barriers.
“The demolition will be carried out using a controlled, mechanical top-down process,” a university spokesperson said. “Work hours are scheduled to limit impact to the campus community.”
Tennessee plans to replace the eastern portion of the garage with a new parking structure with 215 more spaces. This is part of the 865 Neyland entertainment district project meant to transform part of the waterfront near Neyland Stadium…
