KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Students in Knox County will once again remain at home on Tuesday. It’s been more than a week since Knox County Schools held classes as the area continues to recover following the winter storm that blanketed East Tennessee.

Students have not been in class since Thursday, Jan. 13 due to the district being closed on Friday, Jan. 12 due to high winds. Class was not in session on Monday, Jan. 15 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

A WATE cameraman rode along with Knox County Schools Chief of Security Jason Periard as he evaluated area roads, who recommended classes be canceled due to lingering impacts on travel.

“There’s just too much. There’s not enough time to melt it all you know before the morning and I’m not worried about the afternoon. I’m just worried about that morning “zero dark thirty.” Buses are rolling in, they can’t see the patches of ice, things like that. So my recommendation is it’s not ready yet.”
